Cynthia Bonnycastle is an Individual, Marriage, & Family Therapist with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. As such, she counsels individuals, couples, and families to change and grow. Cynthia has spent well over 3,000 hours counseling clients in outpatient clinics. In these clinics, she worked with a range of lower income, multi-cultural populations .
Along with providing individual, couples, and family therapy in Huntington Beach, her experience includes facilitating therapeutic groups for incarcerated youth & pregnant teens. She also offers support groups for women and men.
By using multiple approaches including mindfulness, client-centered, and cognitive-behavioral, Cynthia has been trained to help those seeking direction to look at themselves and their lives in a more effective way. As a result, clients learn healthy coping and emotion management strategies.
Furthermore, she guides clients to gain awareness and self-acceptance. This enables a person to build inner strength and deal better with life’s difficulties. Those seeking help are discouraged and in need of skills and understanding.
In addition to her Marriage & Family Therapist clinical experience, she has worked as a school counselor for over 20 years. In that role, she counseled adults, parents, and teens. School counseling duties included crisis intervention, behavior management, and grief counseling. Also, she provided case management for students with disabilities and for students receiving county assistance.
“One of my guiding quotes is from therapist Carl Rogers. Carl said, ‘The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.‘ It can be a great struggle to accept ourselves just as we are. It is my personal mission to assist others toward this acceptance and beyond.”
